OT App Design, LLC was established as a research and development company specifically for the commercialization of novel evidence based and objective screening and assessment tools for the education sector.
Renee Cassuto, Co-Founder and CEO
Reneé Cassuto, co-founder and CEO of OT App Design, is a software developer turned occupational therapist. While working as a teletherapist Renee noticed that many students in relatively advanced grades, ie: 4th and 5th grade, were referred for services due to difficulty with handwriting skills that were impacting their participation in school. In order to directly address these referrals and the barriers to universal handwriting proficiency screening in schools she spoke to teachers, principals, school boards, departments of education and special education, PTA’s, national lobbyists, parents, and anyone else willing to talk to her about handwriting. Based on these discussions, Reneé developed a new method for handwriting analysis which would allow for rapid, objective, easy, and cost-effective handwriting proficiency screening. Reneé is currently acting as the primary investigator for a prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) Phase 1 award to conduct the feasibility testing of a smart phone/tablet-based application based on her research and the proprietary analysis algorithms developed. Reneé strives to create opportunities for all students to achieve their dreams and build a better future.
James Cassuto, Co-Founder and CTO
James Cassuto, co-founder and CTO of OT App Design, is a physician scientist, inventor, and serial entrepreneur who has founded/co-founded 5 companies which have received nearly 500K in federal business grants and helped research departments acquire over $2.5M in funding. He is the technical lead on the company’s NSF SBIR Phase 1 award and has been instrumental in the behind the scenes data analysis and experimental design during the screening tool’s development and testing.
